An Operating System is the basic software that controls a computer. It takes care of how the hardware operates, the communication with peripherals such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between all the applications, plus the prioritization of applications when several run at once. Each program that is installed on a PC functions by sending requests to the OS for different services using an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS can be achieved using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting world, the Operating System is what commands a web hosting server and all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also any other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. If there are virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Web Hosting
The dedicated server packages that we offer come with three different Operating Systems to select from. They are all Linux release - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license taxes, but they are also considered to be among the most reliable and safe OSs. We offer three different ones as each one of them is backed by a different community. The packages that you can add on your web server are different and this could matter in case you need to install some piece of software with particular requirements regarding the hosting environment. In this light, the hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the Operating System that you will pick. You may choose any of the three Operating Systems during the order process, however if needed, we can always install the server anew with another one upon your request. As an optional service that you can add to the package at any moment, we can update your OS regularly in order to keep it as risk-free as possible.
