If you would like to transfer a domain name from one domain name registrar to another, you’ll have to pass through a few safety steps. One of them is obtaining a special EPP authorization code from the current registrar company – on the condition that you are the domain registrant, since the code is emailed to the domain owner’s email account and nobody else can obtain it. You’ll have to give this code to the new registrar company, otherwise they will not be able to begin the domain name transfer procedure. The EPP authentication codes are case-sensitive and may include numbers or special characters such as dots or commas, which can be easily misentered, so make sure you copy and paste the correct code. As an extra security measure, the transfer code for a domain may be changed regularly. Certain domain name registrars refer to this code as an Auth key, a domain secret or a domain password as well.
